The second annual Northwest Regional Women in Computing Celebration took place on October 19th. Thirty-five students from the Maseeh College were able to take part in the celebration through a scholarship provided by the college that covered registration fees.
The focus of the celebration is to bring female students from high schools and universities together with industry leaders and inspire and support women to pursue a career in a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) field. Speakers included: Rajani Ramanathan the Chief Operating Officer for the Technology & Products organization at Salesforce.com, Alex Zafiroglu and Jennifer Healey, Senior Research Scientists the Interaction & Experience Research Lab at Intel and more.
The latter half of the day's events included mock interviews and a career fair where students could network with representatives from local industry.
Also present at the celebration was the Sit With Me campaign. This campaign empowers individuals to “take a stand” in support of women in the Computer Science and IT field.
